Dear Friends,
Portland has long been a city where creativity, self-expression, and community flourish. Among its most vibrant artistic traditions is burlesque—a world of performers, producers, costume designers, musicians, photographers, stagehands, and audiences who have spent decades creating spaces where art, humor, empowerment, and identity come together.
We are asking for your tax-deductible support of this important work of art, culminating in one celebratory event of Portland’s long-cherished exotic arts history and subculture, and the people who choose this way of life to express their art form and truest selves. We ask you to join us on Friday, October 9th, 2026 at Rae Loft for the Subrosa BOOK RELEASE event, held with permission and in collaboration with Fractured Atlas, Inc.
Subrosa & the Cult of Aphrodite spotlights the eccentric night performance scene, focusing on dance as a form of passionate expression, personal liberation, and social and political protest. The project also highlights the challenges of artistic personal expression while raising children. The intimate portraits were made in theaters, exotic dance clubs, greenrooms, onstage, backstage, and private homes.
If you have been inspired by Portland's performance community, attended a show, performed on stage, supported local artists, or simply believe in preserving independent arts and culture, I invite you to become part of this project.
